A Recommendation Worth Following
One of my favorite things to do when I travel is wander through local food shops.
During a recent visit to Chicago, my sister and I stopped by The Spice House in Old Town after a friend here in Luxembourg recommended it. Even though Chicago is my hometown, I’d never been there before, and it turned out to be one of those places I’m glad someone told me about.
Inside, shelves are lined with spices, herbs, and house blends from around the world. It’s the kind of shop where you want to slow down, read every label, and imagine what you’ll cook next.

Every shelf offers another ingredient to discover, from familiar pantry staples to unique spice blends and herbs from around the world.
What Came Home With Me
I couldn’t resist bringing a few things home to Luxembourg, including Greek seasoning, Mexican oregano, and Urfa biber, a smoky Turkish pepper I’ll soon be using as I cook my way through Turkey on my Cookbook Shelf.
Finding ingredients that aren’t always easy to buy in Luxembourg is one of my favorite parts of traveling, even if it means squeezing one more bag into an already overstuffed suitcase.
