A Special Dinner Before the Wedding Weekend
One of the evenings we were most looking forward to during our trip to Bellingham was dinner at Estelle, where our son, Sam, works.
It was nice to finally stop in, meet some of the people Sam works with, and experience a place that’s become such a big part of his life.
Around the Table

Dinner was all about sharing. Before long the table was filled with small plates, warm bread, chicken liver mousse, roasted vegetables, and plenty of dishes to pass around.
I always enjoy meals like this because everyone gets to try a little bit of everything. It makes dinner feel a little more relaxed and a lot more fun.
Main Course

For our mains, we ordered the duck confit, diver scallops, and black cod. Then the chef surprised us with a hanger steak for the table to share.
Every dish was beautifully prepared, and it was one of those meals where every plate that came out made us excited for the next one.
Something Sweet

Even after all of that, dessert somehow sounded like a good idea.
The chef sent out panna cotta with passion fruit and jalapeño, bay leaf crème brûlée, and chocolate mousse. We happily sampled them all.
Wrapping Up the Evening
The food was outstanding, but what I’ll remember most is simply spending the evening together before the wedding weekend began. It gave us a chance to slow down, enjoy a great meal, and soak in the excitement of everything that was about to come.
It was the perfect way to kick off Sam and Bella’s wedding celebrations.
What I Learned
- Sharing small plates is still my favorite way to experience a restaurant.
- Some of the best meals happen right before life’s biggest celebrations.
- Visiting a place that’s become part of someone else’s life makes you appreciate it in a different way.
- Sometimes the best way to start a busy weekend is to slow down over dinner.
