Dutch Cookbook

I chose Dutch Cookbook by Laura de Grave for its collection of regional recipes and the stories behind the food of the Netherlands.

Our visits to Amsterdam and The Hague introduced me to traditional Dutch dishes as well as the wonderfully multicultural food found throughout the country. This book gave me an opportunity to explore those traditions more deeply and bring some of our travel memories into my own kitchen.

The recipes are rooted in the country’s regions, history and local ingredients. They offer a warm introduction to Dutch cooking, from simple everyday meals to dishes connected to particular cities and celebrations.

Hutspot with Klapstuk
A traditional Dutch combination of potatoes, carrots and onions served with slowly braised beef and a rich gravy. Simple, warming and full of flavor, it is the kind of comforting homestyle meal made for gathering around the table.
